punching down

‘stop resisting,’
officers shout as they
club a student in the head

        (charged with assault
        for bleeding on their uniforms)

‘stop resisting,’
soldiers say to naked
men and boys, hands zip-tied

        (bodies found later
        in an unmarked grave)

‘stop resisting,’
state troopers bellow over
the cries of migrants tangled
in submerged razor wire

        (they drown, unnoticed
        by the world at large)

‘stop resisting,’
they say as they gobble up
homes, neighborhoods, people

        (will you stop?)
